Ediogames announced that a real-time, 2D, action-platformer where two teams duke it out on destructible environments has officially launched on Steam. La última batalla combines the likes of Super Smash Bros Worms, for the ultimate showdown in destructive, side-scrolling action.

Ediogames is promising a free-to-play experience without any “pay-to-win” shenanigans. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what the user reviews look like before confirming if that’s true or not.

The hook for the game is that there are six different classes with four different weapon types per class. You’ll choose your character and hop into several different modes, including team deathmatch, boss rush, arena mode, control point, randomizer, versus, and a zombie mode.

The game seems fairly creative and like Ediogames is at least trying to step outside the box with La batalla final. You can see what the game looks like in action with the launch trailer below.

As showcased in the trailer, the action-oriented gameplay is also accompanied by a fairly robust character customization feature. So if you like how one of the characters play but you hate how they look, you can use the character customization to deck them out with the kind of gear you feel best suits your play-style and visual appeal.

According to Nicolas Eskenazi, game designer at Ediogames, they’ve already surpassed more than 30,000 registered users since the beta that was launched in France, saying in the press release…

“We are very excited to bring the UB experience to an English speaking audience for the first time. Since the beta was launched in France, more than 30,000 accounts were created and we are eager to receive new users’ feedback from all over the world”

One of the modes that will be sure to cause some shrieking from the usual suspects is a “Save the Princess” mode. Yes, it’s the exact kind of mode that you think it is, and so we’ll see if certain websites hone in their cultural critic cross-hairs on La última batalla to paint it as something it’s not just because you save a princess.
