Utomik’s streaming service has launched in full for PC gamers. It originated from a small Dutch team in the Netherlands back in 2014, and has slowly built up the tech behind the service leading into its official graduation from beta… today.

Utomik currently offers gamers 750 different games to play for $6.99 a month for a single user, or $9.99 a month for a four-person family plan. Gamers available through Utomik include THQ Nordic, Sega, Epic Games, Curve Digital, IO interactive, and Warner Bros., to name a few. They state that they have more than 100 publishing partners.

The May preview trailer covers some of the new games added to the service, including Risen 2: Dark Waters, Megadimension Neptunia VII, Rusty Lake Hotel, Holy Potatoes! A Weapon Shop?! y Outcast: Segundo Contacto.

The hook for the service is that unlike other streaming services such as PlayStation Now, you’ll eventually download the games after starting them up, so that you can play them without consuming massive amounts of bandwidth. However, the service still uses streaming during the initial start-up of the game until it downloads to your PC or laptop.

Utomik is hoping to to fill the role for PC gaming that the Xbox Game Pass does for Xbox gamers, by giving them a Netflix or Spotify-style opportunity to play and stream games. The only problem is that this kind of service has been around in many incarnations before, with the most popular being Onlive.

While streaming games for a fixed price sounds nice in theory, most gamers want to be able to own their games and play them at their own leisure without the titles, their progress, mods, and saved games being tied to the service provider.
